Q: Is my phone compatible with ShortTalks? Why the list of compatible phones so short?
A: ShortTalks application is developing in compliance with ETSI GSM 07.05 and 07.07 and some other standards. So if a phone is compatible with the standards, it also compatible with the application. On Compatible Phones page there are listed phones that have been tested with ShortTalks. Obviously, the number of tested phone models is many fewer than the number of compatible ones. If your phone is not in the compatibility list, the best way to find out if it is compatible is to try ShortTalks with your phone. We wish you good luck in that!
Q: What is Windows coding? Why messages with this coding is not readable on phones?
A: Windows coding is 8-bit (for one symbol) coding scheme, that Windows operating system are using for some national (not English) languages. This coding is not supported by mobile phones by itself. However phones can send and receive such coded messages. To decode and read this messages you must use ShortTalks, i.e. you and your interlocutors must use ShortTalks application to exchange messages in Windows coding. But using Windows coding you can pack 140 symbols in one SMS message in a national language, while using Unicode only 70 symbols are available.
